In the contemporary medical system, chiropractic is gaining wider recognition as a non-pharmacological and non-invasive therapeutic approach. The term 'Chiropractic' is derived from the Greek words 'cheir' (meaning 'hand') and 'praxis' (meaning 'practice'), reflecting its core principle of using manual manipulation to adjusts the body structure, especially the spine, to enhance function, alleviate pain, and promote the body’s innate healing capacities.


I. Definition of Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on the relationship between the body's structure (primarily the spine) and its function. According to WTO, it is recognized as a distinct system of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system and neuro system. The Chiropractors employs a variety of therapeutic techniques to adjust or correct the spine and other parts of the body, addressing subluxations of the joints to enhance the overall health status of the patient.

II. Service and scope of Chiropractic

Chiropractic has a wide therapeutic range, addressing a variety of conditions that impact the nervous system and musculoskeletal system. During the initial consultation, the chiropractor will take a comprehensive medical history and performs a detailed physical examination, with particular focus on the neurological and orthopedic assessment of the spine. Depending on the individual’s specific circumstances, the chiropractor may order X-ray or other imaging studies to obtain a more precise diagnosis.

Throughout the treatment process, the chiropractor tailors a personalized rehabilitation plan according to the patient’s symptoms and diagnosis. This plan typically incorporates one or more types of corrective techniques, including but not limited to manipulation, traction, and message. These techniques aim to correct subluxation by applying controlled and rapid forces, thereby increasing the range of motion and flexibility in the treated areas. Through this approach, Chiropractic helps patient can help patients in relieving pain, enhancing function, and restoring overall health.


III. Target population of Chiropractic

Chiropractic is suitable for individuals experiencing various discomforts such as body pain, joint crepitus and muscle tension. Below are some common issues that may benefit from chiropractic treatments.

(1) Headache and neck pain: this includes migraines, tension headaches and neck pain resulting from cervical spine issues.

(2) Lower back pain and sciatica: pain in the lower back caused by issues with the lumbar spine, as well as the resulting sciatica.

(3) Sports injuries and poor posture: encompassing muscle strains, sprains, stiffness, and pain and functional limitations due to poor posture.

(4) Other issues: conditions such as Golger's Elbow and restricted joint mobility.
